1312476 Hydraulic and mechanical presses VERSON ALLSTEEL PRESS CO 1 May 1970 [11 June 1969] 21065/70 Heading B5F A prestressed press comprises a bed member 15, a crown member 20 and a ram 19 carried by one of said members, a plurality of saddles 25 and 26 on the bed member and crown member respectively, a plurality of tension members 27 extending between and along the sides of the bed and crown members and beyond the saddles thereon and having recesses 30, 31, therein engaging the saddles, compression members 35 between the bed and crown members, and shim means 36 for maintaining tension in the tension members 27 and compression in the compression members 35. The shim means may comprise wedge blocks which are driven into place. The invention may be applied to a crank type press but as shown is applied to an hydraulic press having a cylinder 16 and piston 18. The bottom and top portions 28 and 29 of the tension members 27 are held together by tension bolts 38 and 42 respectively with interposed sleeves 40 and 44. The lower part of Fig. 3 and Figs. 4, 5, 6 (not shown) show a modification in which the ends of the tension members 27 are held together by plates 53, (61) with shims 55 interposed between shoulders 52, 54 on the members 27 and plate 53 respectively. |
