PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile communication system capable of extending a transmission enabled range of a signal from a base station without deteriorating the quality of communication between the base station and a mobile station. SOLUTION: The mobile station TR1 is configured to demodulate a received signal by selecting a delay detection system or a synchronous detection system, which is better in the signal demodulation characteristic than that of the delay detection system but lower in the resistance to a frequency shift of the received signal, depending on whether the mobile station TR1 makes communication with another mobile station TR3 via a relay of the base station BS or directly with another mobile station TR2. Thus, in the case of demodulating a transmission signal from the base station BS, the mobile station TR1 selects the synchronous detection system with the better signal demodulation characteristic, on the other hand, when the mobile station TR1 demodulates a transmission signal from another mobile station, the mobile station TR1 can select the delay detection system with the high resistance to the frequency shift of the received signal. Then the transmission enabled range of the signal from the base station can be extended without deteriorating the quality of communication between the base station and the mobile station.
