PRODUCTION OF CYCLIC CARBOXYLIC ACID ESTER

PURPOSE:To simply obtain the subject compound which is a synthetic intermediate for a compound useful as an antimicrobial agent in high yield by treating a specific compound with ozone in the presence of an alcohol and a base. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (X1 and X2 are halogen or H, except when these groups are simultaneously H), preferably previously treated with ozone is re-treated with ozone for 30min to 10hr in the presence of an alcohol and a base to provide the objective compound of formula II (R is alkyl) (preferably 2-chloro-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid methyl ester).
