The wheels (1,2) are made from a solid matrix with a number of flow channels (21) in which deflection of the flow and the associated pressure increase take place to reduce flow noise and to improve the characteristic stability between the inlet and outlet flow cross-sections. The solid matrix is made non-isotropically from separate segments through which the flow channels are formed.
