METHOD FOR PRODUCING HIGHLY REACTIVE ISOBUTENE HOMOPOLYMER AND HIGHLY REACTIVE ISOBUTENE COPOLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an economical method for producing a highly reactive polyisobutene having a medium molecular weight and the narrowest possible molecular weight distribution for improving quality of a conventional high- molecular polyisobutene.

SOLUTION: The method for producing the highly reactive polyisobutene comprises polymerizing isobutene or the isobutene having a copolymerizable monomer in the presence of a transition metal catalyst represented by general formula [M(R1-CN)4-6](A)2[wherein, M denotes groups 3 to 12 metals of the periodic table of elements: R1denotes a 1-8C alkyl group; and A denotes a weakly coordinated anion].
