PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing special steel for a die by which the size of carbides and annealing hardness in continuous annealing can be controlled, the cost for producing the die can be reduced, and the service life of the die can be elongated. SOLUTION: A special steel stock containing, by mass, 0.65 to 0.75% C, 4.5 to 5.5% Cr and 0.05 to 0.15% V is hot-rolled, and is thereafter held to a soaking temperature of 815 to 865°C. The steel is subsequently cooled to 300°C at a cooling rate of≤15°C/hr, thus is subjected to annealing treatment. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
