PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image reader which prevents a cassette from dropping off and displacement and which has an attractive plate from which the cassette can be detached easily. SOLUTION: The radiation image reader has a subscanning part which holds and transports the cassette 1 containing a stimulable phosphor sheet, and reads radiation image information in the stimulable phosphor sheet. The subscanning part is provided with an attractive plate 54 attracting and holding the surface of the cassette 1 with magnetic force, an actuator for transporting the cassette 1 to the predetermined direction by moving the attractive plate 54, a magnetic force control means for controlling the magnetic force of the attractive plate 54, and/or an attractive area shifting means shifting an attractable area on the attractive plate 54.
