PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color video display device which can display a video with good color reproducibility. SOLUTION: The color video display device is equipped with a liquid crystal display panel 3 having display elements which display video signals time dividedly for every video signal at least three kinds of different wavelengths, and an illuminating means 5 which illuminates the respective display elements by making every light source of the LED light sources 5R, 5G, and 5B having at least three kinds of different wavelength characteristics individually emit light while synchronizing with the display periods of time division of the display elements; when the LED light source 5R, 5G, or 5B corresponding to one of the video signals divided by the wavelengths is made selectively illuminate, LED light sources (5B, 5G), (5R, 5B), or (5R, 5G) different from the LED light source 5R, 5G, or 5B which illuminates are made to emit light with a specified light quantity almost at the same time.
