PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for checking the dimension between joints of a jointed exterior member capable of checking the dimension between the joints to a high accuracy by effectively eliminating the influences of noises that may be contained in surface joint configuration measurement data. SOLUTION: The method for checking the dimension between joints of a jointed exterior member 1 having joints 11 on its surface carries out a step of subjecting data about the measurements of the surface joint configuration of the jointed exterior member 1 to a moving average process to reproduce a U- or V-shaped surface joint configuration, a step of determining the lowest point of the reproduced surface joint configuration 3, a step of calculating the distance between the lowest points of adjacent reproduced surface joint configurations 3, and a step of checking the dimension between the joints on the basis of the calculated distance between the lowest points.
