PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roof snow melting device using water flowing down on a roof surface for melting snow and effectively melting snow by a simple structure and to provide a roof steel plate optimally used for this device. SOLUTION: This steel plate 20 for the roof is provided with multiple projection parts 21 evenly arranged over the whole surface of a flat steel plate formed of a galvanized plate, a stainless steel, or a copper plate. For example, the substantially hemispherical projection parts 21 are regularly arranged in the vertical and lateral directions. Water flowing down from the upper side of the roof is divided by the projection part 21 to the left and right sides, and the divided water is divided further by the projection part 21 positioned on the downstream side. When this is repeated, the water downflow passage is dispersed on the overall roof uniformly. Consequently, water serving as a heat medium flows down over the whole roof thinly and uniformly, and a sufficient snow melting effect can be exhibited over the whole of the roof.
