DETERRENT

A deterrent (1) is provided in which a spike (2) is associated with a sentinel post (3) with a stabiliser (4) therebetween. The spike (2) enters the ground in order to present the sentinel post (3) incorporating an appropriate repellent for a subject animal. The stabiliser (4) inhibits topple of the deterrent (1) and also resists leaching of repellent from the sentinel spike. The repellent is typically incorporated within the deterrent in the form of microencapsules within a plastics material.
