<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to give a more natural impression to a listener by performing speech synthesis in which differences in speech tone between sentences before and after a sentence to be read loud, is taken into consideration. <P>SOLUTION: A speaking style and feeling decision part 204 determines a speech tone (speaking style or feeling) for a sentence as an object of speech synthesis and holds it in a speaking style and feeling holding part 205. At this time, the speech tone determined as to the sentence right before the sentence as the object of speech synthesis is moved to and held in a previous sentence speaking style and feeling holding part 206.
