PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antibacterial agent based on a phlorotannin. SOLUTION: The antibacterial agent is based on a phlorotannin. More particularly, the agent is one wherein the phlorotannin is selected from among phloroglucinol, eckol, phlorofucofuroeckol A, dieckol, 8,8'-bieckol, or a combination of at least two of these substances.
