<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that electric power is consumed wastefully in a liquid crystal display picture plane of a conventional device because even portions on which information is not displayed are illuminated by backlights, and the display of the picture plane becomes hard to see when the backlights are thinned and turned on to reduce the electric power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The device includes an LCD 170 as the liquid crystal display picture plane, a plurality of backlights 180 to illuminate the LCD 170 from the rear face side of the LCD 170, and a main control unit 101 to control the drive of the backlights 180.
