PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the occurrences of toner staining and toner leakage by suppressing the occurrence of toner scattering from an intermediate transfer belt in an image forming apparatus by which an image is formed by transferring a toner image to the intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus by which the toner image is transferred and fed to the intermediate transfer belt 10 is provided with a contact starting part at which the intermediate transfer belt starts coming into contact with a supporting roller 14, a separation starting part at which it starts separating and an opposed member 201 at an opposed position by holding the intermediate transfer belt, and the voltage of a polarity same as that of the intermediate transfer belt carrying the toner image is applied to the opposed member, so that an electric field in which toner on the intermediate transfer belt is not moved to the opposed member is formed between the opposed member and the intermediate transfer belt carrying the toner image.
