PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture metal grains with desired shape and grain size by dropping a molten metal into a cooling medium so as to be cooled and solidified. SOLUTION: The molten metal 20 in a molten metal holding vessel 10 is tapped from a tip 44 of a nozzle to form the tapped metal 50. The tapped metal is dropped into the cooling medium 60 and cooled and solidified to manufacture metal grains 55. The temperature of the nozzle is measured by a sensor 35 for temperature measurement provided on the nozzle 40. The power supplied to a heater 30 is controlled, and the heating condition of the nozzle 40 is controlled to keep the temperature of a lower part 45 of the nozzle at a predetermined value. A space (d) between the tip 44 of the nozzle and the cooling medium 60 is measured by a level sensor 63, and a cooling medium tank 61 is elevated/lowered by an elevating/lowering mechanism 62 to keep the space (d) at the predetermined value.
