PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst component and a catalyst for polymerization producing a copolymer of a vinyl compound having a bulky substituent with good copolymerizability, a method for polymerizing the copolymer of the vinyl compound having the bulky substituent with the good copolymerizability and the use of a transition metal compound for producing the copolymer of the vinyl compound having the bulky substituent with the good copolymerizability. SOLUTION: The catalyst component, etc., for polymerizing the vinyl compound are used for addition polymerization of the vinyl compound having the bulky substituent and comprise the transition metal compound represented by general formula [I] (M is a transition metal atom; A is a silicon atom, a germanium atom or a tin atom; R1and R2are each a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group; X is a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or a group containing a heteroatom; and n is a number of 0-4).
