PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side-effect-free safe therapeutic agent which activates eNOS (endothelial NO synthase) so as for it to optimally function in order treat or prevent diseases or pathological conditions caused when the product of expression of eNOS does not perform its proper function. SOLUTION: The drug for the therapy or prophylaxis of diseases and pathological conditions caused by an increase in eNOS contains as the active component a compound represented by formula (I) [wherein R1and R2are each a hydrogen atom or may be combined with each other to form a single bond; and R3is -CH(OH)CH(OH)CH3, -CH(OCOCH3)CH(OCOCH3)CH3, -CH3, -CH2OH, or a phenyl group when R1and R2are each a hydrogen atom and is -COCH(OH) CH3when R1and R2are combined together to form a single bond] or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
