The shaft bearing comprises a bearing shell (3) accommodated inside a bore (2) formed as a bearing shell seat. A groove (4) in the axial direction is formed in the region of the bearing shell seat and extends at least over the length of the bearing shell between an outer end face (3.1) and inner end face of the bearing shell. The length of the groove in the axial direction is between 5 and 20 per cent greater than the length of the bearing shell, whereby the groove is contiguous to an outer end face (2.1) of the bearing shell seat. An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the manufacture of a groove in the region of the bearing shell seat.
