PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light control system for an image forming apparatus that can stably perform an APC control, after light intensity is switched. SOLUTION: The light control system for an image forming apparatus comprises: a semiconductor laser; an integral means; a laser drive means controlling emission volume of laser beam; a rotating polyhedron for deflection scanning of the laser beam to form scanning lines on a photoreceptor; a rotating polyhedron drive means rotating the rotating polyhedron; a horizontal synchronization signal detecting means disposed to a leading end on the scanning line and detecting the laser beam to output the horizontal synchronization signal; and a rotating polyhedron drive control means controlling a revolution speed of the rotating polyhedron based on a detection period of the horizontal synchronization signal, and outputting a signal whose pulse width is modulated. The rotating polyhedron drive control means controls a drive state of the rotating polyhedron depending on a signal and an integral time constant of the integral means, when changing a modulation state of the signal whose pulse is modulated.
