PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically recognize the kind of printing plate in a cassette after the printing plate is loaded in the cassette. SOLUTION: In order to automatically decide the kind (longitudinal dimension, lateral dimension, thickness, and positive/negative type of the printing plate to be loaded in the cassette, the positions of a conveyance-directional slide guide plate 152 and a width-directional slide guide plate 156 are detected for the longitudinal dimension and lateral dimension by sing an electrode 164 and a slide resistor 166 to measure a current value based upon its resistance variation, an existent plate surface sensor is diverted for the thickness, and an existent slip sheet sensor is diverted for discriminating the positive/negative type. Consequently, data which were manually inputted before can automatically be recognized with simple constitution and trouble (shift in rear-end chuck position, etc.), due to processing due to misinput, etc., is not caused.
