PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image reader provided with a means of positioning a lock opening and closing mechanism which can reliably align a cassette and the lock opening and closing mechanism. SOLUTION: The radiation image reader is provided with: a turning transport part 40 provided with a receiving base 42 for holding a cassette 1 containing a stimulable phosphor sheet and a turning means which turns the receiving base 42; a subscanning part 50 which attracts and holds the cassette 1 transported by the turning transport part 40; and a lock opening and closing mechanism 42a to realize the lock and unlock state of the cassette 1. The radiation image reader is further provided with the means of positioning the lock opening and closing mechanism which disposes the lock opening and closing mechanism 42a in a position separated by a certain dimension from the prescribed reference surface 21a of the cassette 1 which is attracted and held by the subscanning part 50, when the cassette 1 transported by the turning transporting portion 40 is attracted and held by the subscanning part 50.
