<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure an AC power using a single optical crystal. <P>SOLUTION: The AC power measurement device linearly polarizes a light emitted from a laser diode via a polarizer, and then enters the light into a 3m-symmetric crystal, such as a lithium niobate crystal, having double- orthogonal Pockels effect; applies electric fields associated with the load voltage and the load current so as to intersect the electric fields orthogonally to a light axis in two directions; decomposes an outgoing light from this crystal using a beam splitter; and processes an orthogonal component signal, thereby obtaining the effective power, apparent power and the like. This device can instantaneously measure an AC power using a single crystal, and thus provides the advantageous effect of realizing the real-time measurement without using a magneto-optical crystal and an iron core coil in a conventional manner. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
