PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive method requiring only a narrow area, easy to be installed, installed even in a sloped face and an uneven ground, and for detecting an infiltration timing of melted snow water into the ground that is a useful information to prevent or reduce a disaster to be generated by infiltration of the melted snow water into the ground, and to provide a detector therefor. SOLUTION: A temperature sensor 2 is set under the ground 1 in a non- snowfall period, measured data are collected from the temperature sensor 2, a variation value of temperature in a soil is found moment by moment, it is monitored whether the variation value exceeds a threshold or not, the infiltration-into-ground starting date and hour of the melted snow water are judged when the variation value exceeds the threshold in the negative direction, and it is judged as a snow-disappearing day when the variation value exceeds the threshold in the positive direction, while continuing the monitoring.
