PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an alumina fiber mat which has high restoring property and does not cause joint opening even after use at a high temperature and a product using the same. SOLUTION: In the alumina fiber mat comprising≥70 wt.% of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, a part of the fibers has three-dimensional spiral loops or a shape in which the loops are cut in the middle, each fiber has a ring shape projected on a plane and the fibers are oriented three-dimensionally at random and laminated in a mutually entangled state. The recovery of the mat is larger than 150% at a room temperature and larger than 110% after heating for 8 hours at 1,200°C. The compression load of the mat at a room temperature is larger than 0.30×10<SP>-2</SP>MPa. The alumina mat has≤300 ppm total amount of Na and K,≤200 ppm Fe,≤2 ppm Cu,≤2 ppm Ni,≤50 ppm Ca and≤10 ppm Mg as impurities contained in the alumina fiber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
