PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separately take out char and incombustible matter on taking out a thermal decomposition residue. SOLUTION: An inner cylinder 3 having one end connected to a supplying pipe 5 and the other end connected to a discharging pipe 6a is accommodated in an outer cylinder 2 thereby forming a heating flow channel 7 between the inner and outer cylinders to form a kiln body 1. The kiln body 1 is rotatingly drivably laid declining toward the discharging pipe 6a, and a supplying apparatus 9 of an object 4 of thermal decomposition is connected into the supplying pipe 5. The other end portion of the discharging pipe 6a is caused to project into a separation chamber 12a by a required length and a bar screen part 16 is arranged at the other end portion of the discharging pipe 6a situated in the separation chamber 12a. A hopper 17 equipped with a char-discharging port 18 for discharging char is installed at the bottom part of the separation chamber 12a under the bar screen part 16, and a hopper 20 equipped with an incombustible matter-discharging port 21 for discharging incombustible matter is installed at a position under the end portion opening 19 of the discharging pipe 6a. Thermal decomposition residue 11 of the object 4 of thermal decomposition is separated at the bar screen part 16 into a char 22 and large-sized incombustible matter 23, which are recovered in separated states from the char-discharging port 18 and the incombustible matter- discharging port 21, respectively.
