PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a web guide device which can be mounted on a small slitter, for example, at low cost, to greatly improve workability that is low because of position deflection of a web being carried during work since the web guide device cannot be installed, and realize high precision of work by provision of the web guide device, overcoming difficulty of conventional web guide devices by formation of a loop requiring separate drive sources on the upstream side and the downstream side of the loop which causes relatively high manufacturing cost, and which requires sufficient installation space to make it difficult to be mounted on a simple and compact web carrying device. SOLUTION: A drive source is commonly used for feed drive rollers on the upstream and downstream sides of the loop. Web feed quantity by the feed drive rollers on the upstream side is set so as to be larger than that by the feed drive rollers on the downstream side by mechanical component elements only. Loop quantity is adjusted by connection and disconnection of an electromagnetic clutch provided for drive transmission of the feed drive rollers on the upstream side. A compact and simple loop forming web guide device can thus be realized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
