<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of absorbing irregularities in the rotation of a drive motor and to provide an image forming method for the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A photoreceptor 1 is rotated by a stepping motor 4. The data of the rotation information is transmitted to a control circuit 3 by a successive mark detector 2. An excessive or deficient amount of rotation is calculated by the control circuit 3 and a control value for a predetermined amount of rotation is transmitted to a drive circuit 6. Correction is made by the drive circuit 6 so that the predetermined amount of rotation is assured. Thereafter, an optical scanning line is formed for each time. Because the position of the photoreceptor is controlled for each optical scanning line, variations in intervals between optical scans are prevented.
