<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing a color filter for a semitransmissive liquid crystal display consisting of a colored layer having a uniform colored pixel and colored layer having a transparent part without sticking a foreign body, with a flat surface and good positional accuracy of the transparent part of the colored layer having the transparent part and the colored layer part, at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: A colorless transparent positive photoresist 18 is applied on a substrate 11. The transparent part 17 is formed using a photomask PM1 which transmits the light at the part other than the transparent part. A negative colored photoresist 19 is applied.
