<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a both reflection and transmission type liquid crystal display device having satisfactory display characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device having a first substrate 10 having a pixel electrode 16 formed thereon, a second substrate 42 having a counter electrode 32 formed thereon and opposed to the pixel electrode and a liquid crystal 40 encapsulated between the first and the second substrates, the pixel electrode consists of a reflection electrode 38 reflecting light and a transmission electrode 36 formed adjacently to the reflection electrode and transmitting light and a transmission area 38 on the transmission electrode is divided into a plurality of areas 38a and 38b where alignment directions of liquid crystal molecules are different from each other when voltage is applied between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
