<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device capable of increasing its mount adaptability onto a vehicle by preventing the occurrence of erroneous input. <P>SOLUTION: A palm rest 26 and a palm switch 28 are disposed on the rear side of a touch panel 14. Also, the operation of the touch panel 14 is controlled by a controller 24. When a driver places his or her palm on the palm rest 26, the palm switch 28 is turned on, and the touch panel 14 is put in an active condition by the controller 24 so that the touch panel 14 can be made operable. On the other hand, when the touch panel 14 is carelessly touched by the driver, the palm switch 28 is held in its off state, and the touch panel 14 is put in a stop condition by the controller 24 so that the touch panel 14 can be made inoperable.
