PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antistatic biaxially oriented polyester film which excels in antistatic properties, transfer properties, skiving resistance, and blocking resistance, and is useful for a base film for a high density magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: The antistatic biaxially oriented polyester film is obtained by providing an antistatic coating film which uses a coating fluid containing a solid content composition comprising (A) 4-99 wt.% antistatic agent having a specific structure, (B) 0-95 wt.% at least one binder resin selected from the group consisting of (B-1) a polyester resin, (B-2) an acrylic resin, and (B-3) an acrylic modified polyester resin, and (C) 1-15 wt.% crosslinking agent having a specific structure on at least one surface of a 2-11μm-thick polyester film which has a heat shrinkage in the lengthwise direction at 80°C×1 hr of 0-0.3%, a Young's modulus in both lengthwise and crosswise directions of≥4,900 N/mm<SP>2</SP>and, simultaneously, a sum of the Young's moduli in the lengthwise and crosswise directions of 11,700-24,500 N/mm<SP>2</SP>.
