PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method for a base insulation damper and an inspection device for the base insulation damper capable of examining surely a junction state between a lead pillar body and a flange by a nondestructive inspection method, and measuring accurately the size of a prescribed part. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic wave is allowed to enter from an ultrasonic probe 15 dipped in water 14 stored on the upper face side of the flange 2, and the magnitude of a reflected echo is detected to thereby determine the junction state between the lead pillar body 1 and the flange 2, and the size of the prescribed part of this base insulation damper 10 is measured out of contact with the base insulation damper 10 by an optical sensor 16. Then, the ultrasonic probe 15 and the optical sensor 16 are moved to a prescribed position by a driving mechanism, and determination of the junction state between the lead pillar body 1 and the flange 2 and measurement of the size are performed relative to a plurality of prescribed positions.
