PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environment-friendly refrigerator having good efficiency without using Freon gas having a bad influence upon the environment for the purpose of preventing global warming and restraining breakage of the ozone layer. SOLUTION: In this refrigerator, material to be stored in a storage is cooled by a stirring refrigerator for performing cooling by a Stirling cycle. The refrigerator is provided with a reverse-Stirling cycle for reversing a heat absorbing part with a radiating part of the Stirling refrigerator, whereby defrosting operation having good efficiency is performed.
