The belt material, coated with PVC, is cut into the required widths (1) for belts. The cutting is by heat at a temperature of 150-235[deg]C without generating any toxic combustion gases e.g. sulfur chloride etc., and the PVC is hot-sealed at the cut edges. The edge cutting and sealing can be with the use of ultrasonic and/or high frequency methods. Any gases which develop as a result of faulty temperatures and the like, are extracted by suction for conventional filtering and disposal.
