<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL (electroluminescence) element and an EL display device capable of adjusting emitted light brightness of an optical element to a desired setting brightness. <P>SOLUTION: In the EL element 100, a photoelectric converter 80 monitors a light quantity of an organic light emitting diode 20, and a comparator 60 makes a comparison between a voltage signal 82 corresponding to the light quantity and a data signal VDATA 14 corresponding to the set brightness. During the period of time that the data signal VDATA 14 is large, a switch transistor 70 is brought into conduction, and a capacitor 16 is electrically charged with a search signal VSEARCH 52 showing a large amplitude with time. When the voltage signal 82 exceeds the data signal VDATA 14, the switch transistor 70 is brought into the OFF-state, to hold the driving voltage 72 at that moment, therefore, even if element deterioration occurs on the organic light emitting diode 20, the emitted light brightness can be made equal to the set brightness determined by the data signal VDATA 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
