<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a retardation film excellent in wavelength dependence using a single directing film and overcoming problems of formation and drawing when the tough and flexible retardation film is manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the retardation film, a resin composition comprising a phosphonate residual expressed by general formula (1), a bivalent phenol residual expressed by general formula (2) and having molar fractions of the phosphonate residual, and a carbonate residual meeting formula (3) is used, and the retardation film is manufactured by a flow casting film formation method. In the flow casting film formation method, a solution of the resin composition flows, is cast on a base, is peeled from the base after desiccation, and is drawn during desiccation. In formula (1), R expresses a hydrocarbon group and X expresses oxygen, sulfur or selenium. In formula (2), R' is selected from families comprising a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, the hydrocarbon group and a nitro group, and Y is selected from families comprising a single bond, an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom and an alkylene group, etc. Formula (3) is expressed as 1>(a)/[(a)+(b)]≥0.05.
