PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize electrostatic paper feeding, and to feed paper at a high speed. SOLUTION: An electrostatic paper feeding means forms positive and negative AC charges on a surface of an electrostatic attraction belt, and attracts and carries a sheet. At least one of a voltage range applied to the belt, an applied voltage value, an applied frequency, a feed speed of the belt, or a contacting and separating discharge means is controlled to change attraction force between the belt and the sheet. Magnitude of the attraction force is pattern-formed by the means in accordance with a position of the sheet. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
