A brake piston (BP) (34) acts on friction linings (FLs) (14,14') and can be pushed from an inactive position into an operating position, in which the BP presses the FLs against a torsional element (16) linked without rotating to a motor vehicle wheel. A gearing mechanism (26,28) driven by an electric motor (20) acts on the BP to activate it.
