An information recording device can perform data recording under a limited condition, to a plurality of types of optical recording medium having different purposes, costs, required reliabilities and the like. The information recording device is an information recording device for recording information to a rewritable optical recording medium and decides whether to record information in such a method that overwrite is possible to the rewritable optical recording medium to which information is to be recorded or to record information in such a method that overwrite is substantially impossible. Since a plurality of rewritable optical recording media can have limited compatibility, it is possible to improve convenience for a user.
