<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix metalloprotease (MMP) inhibitor which possesses an excellent inhibitory action against matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) and retains elasticity and youthfulness of a skin, and a skin elasticity-retaining cosmetic. <P>SOLUTION: The MMP inhibitor comprises at least one solvent extract of a bark of at least one diploxylon species belonging to the genus Pinus of the Pinaceae family, chosen from Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc., Pinus thunbergii Parl., Pinus luchuensis Maryr., Pinus massoniana Lamb., Pinus khasya Royle ex Gordon., Pinus sylvestris L., Pinus palustris Mill., Pinus pinaster Ait., Pinus rigida Mill., Pinus radiata D.
