PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has high luminance, i.e., high transmissivity by suppressing a decrease in transmissivity due to the formation of a reverse domain. SOLUTION: An IPS type liquid crystal display device has pixel electrodes and a common electrode formed overlapping with each other across an insulating film and also has end sides of the electrodes formed so that an intense electric field produced at the overlapping area is not in the initial alignment direction of liquid crystal, but in a direction where reversing of the liquid crystal is suppressed.
