PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aluminum alloy which has excellent high temperature strength, and is suitable for the production of a piston for an internal combustion engine by subjecting alloy powder having a specified componential composition and a specified particle diameter to hot forging. SOLUTION: The alloy powder with a mean particle diameter of 20 to 90μm comprises, by mass, 10 to 30% Si, 1 to 5% Fe, 2 to 8% Ni, 0.2 to 5% Cu and 0.2 to 2% Mg, and containing at least one or more kinds of metals selected from 0.1 to 2% Mn, 0.2 to 2% Zr and 0.05 to 0.4% Cr, and in which the ratio between Fe and Ni lies in the range of 1:1.25 to 1:2, and the balance substantially Al, and obtained by gas atomization is subjected to cold isostatic pressing. After that, the pressed body is heated at 350 to 450°C, and is subjected to pressure sintering by hot forging. Subsequently, a solution treatment and an artificial aging are performed to obtain the aluminum alloy having excellent high temperature strength. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
