The heat treatment chamber (5) for a running yarn (1) has sealing chambers (24, 28) upstream and downstream in which different thermodynamic conditions prevail, e.g. with superheated steam supplied to the treatment chamber (5), compressed air is fed to the sealing chambers. A bleed arrangement from guard chambers (4, 8) prevents mixing of the different fluids. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the process of treatment of continuous materials, especially natural or synthetic yarns in a chamber with inlet and outlet regions having different thermodynamic conditions and; (2) the corresponding yarns processed this way.
