<p>A basketball goal apparatus (10) has a basketball goal (12) supported at one end of elongated support member (66) attached medially along the length thereof to an upright stand (14) for swinging movement about a generally horizontal axis. A locking assembly (18) for releasably locking the goal at various heights includes a counterbalance body (88) connected to the opposite end of the support member. The counterbalance body has a weight sufficient to substantially counterbalance the weight of the basketball goal. The locking assembly also includes a relatively stationary body (90) and securing mechanism (92) for releasably securing the counterbalance body to the stationary body at selected location along the length thereof to selectively prevent raising and lowering the counterbalance body when the goal is at a desired height.</p> |
