A supply unit (13) introducing fuel (F) into the filter element (4) has a supply line (16) with its outlet opening (17) in the filter element. The filter is catalytically-active. The feed unit (13) has a numbers of lines, their outlets distributed over the filter element cross section. They form a capillary distribution system. A front section (11) of the filter element surrounding the outlet opening has openings smaller than the flame quench diameter. The filter element is a foam body. A selective catalytic reactor (19) (SCR) is placed in the gas flow, spaced behind the outlet opening. The filter element and SCR reactor are built together into a single unit (7). An Independent claim is included for regenerating the filter element by direct fuel introduction.
