A suspension system for a low floor vehicle (10) includes an independent suspension system which includes a spring strut (66) of the McPherson type. The spring strut essentially combines a spring and shock into a load bearing member of the suspension (24). The spring strut is mounted to the hub support structure and the top of each wheel box.
