A hexagonal shape (1) is created by joining six laths (2), each of them provided with a u-shaped recess engaging with a matching recess located at the lath (2) to be joined. Several of the modules (1) can be linked in order to erect a shelving unit by inserting trapezoidal elements (3a) into the gaps formed by the ends of the assembled laths (2). Filler units in the shape of a twin trapeze (3) are also part of the system. The modules (1) can be joined beside and above each other also in order to create various useful structures like a base for a chair or a table.
