Removal of viruses from protein solutions (A) by nanofiltration comprises treating (A) before nanofiltration through a filter of pore size 15-25 nm with an agent (I) for reducing or inhibiting the aggregation of the protein molecule. (I) is either a chaotropic agent selected from arginine, guanidine, citrulline, urea and their derivatives or a polyethoxy-sorbitan ester.
