Bidirectional optical amplifier with optical isolator

The optical amplifier (OA) is used in combination with an optical isolator (I21,I22) having a transmission direction which is switched by an applied electrical signal. The transmission direction is switched depending on the selected transmission direction of the optical transmission path in which the optical amplifier is inserted. The isolator may use at least one pair of polarisation filters at 45 degrees to one another, with an intermediate device for non-reciprocal rotation of the polarisation plane.
